| Magnesium (Mgo) | 8 |
USAGE:
Magnesium is a highly mobile nutrient within the plant. Under deficiency conditions, it is translocated from older leaves to younger tissues, causing symptoms to appear first on the older leaves. Typical symptoms include interveinal chlorosis, along with reddish, orange, yellow, or purple discoloration.
Role of magnesium in Crops
Magnesium is an essential nutrient for plant growth, as it is the central atom of the chlorophyll molecule. It also plays a key role in phosphorus (P) metabolism by contributing to its absorption and transport within the plant.
Effect on Crops
Magnesium deficiency reduces photosynthetic activity, leading to decreased plant growth and ultimately lower crop yield.
